7.1.3. Properties

Each variable has the following properties subject to variable type limitations as mentioned in the descriptions below.

Property Name

Description

Type

Name

A unique identifier used to reference a variable in parameter values and other variables' expressions. Must start with an underscore or letter. Can contain letters, numbers or underscores.

Alphanumeric

Expression

For expression variables, a mathematical or logical expression. This expression can contain constants, variables, functions and operators. The unit type of the Expression, Min, Max and Step must be the same.

For file and choice variables, a string. The string must be selected from the list of strings supported by the parameter to which the variable is being applied.

Alphanumeric

Group

The group this variable belongs to. Groups can be turned on or off to control variable visibility in the “Variables Control”. See “Grouping” for more information.

Text

Constrain

Whether or not to enforce a range on the variable. Enabled only for expression variables.

True or False

Min

The minimum value - only applicable if Constrain is true. Enabled only for expression variables.

Value containing numbers, operators, and functions. User variables are not allowed. The unit type of the Expression, Min, Max and Step must be the same.

Max

The maximum value - only applicable if Constrain is true. Enabled only for expression variables.

Value containing numbers, operators, and functions. User variables are not allowed. The unit type of the Expression, Min, Max and Step must be the same.

Incr

The amount by which to increase or decrease the variable value - used in the “Tuning Variables” and sweeps. Enabled only for expression variables.

Value containing numbers, operators, and functions. User variables are not allowed. The unit type of the Expression, Min, Max and Step must be the same.

Tune

Whether or not to show this variable in the “Tuning Variables”. Enabled for expression and choice variables.

True or False

Optimize

Whether or not to include this variable in optimizations

True or False

Refs

Number of times the variable is used in a parameter followed by the number of times it is directly used in another variable.

Numeric. Read-only.

Note

User defined notes about the variable.
