All models must contain at least one conductor with non-zero voltage. Boundary conditions can be applied to the external model surfaces as needed, with the absence of an boundary condition considered equivalent to the Neumann boundary condition. The simulation properties can typically be allowed to default, but it some cases it may be beneficial to change the type of linear solver, or, more commonly, to lower the iterative solver convergence tolerance in the case where field anomalies are evident in the result.
ES3p solves for the scalar potential, and as a result it uses the nodal basis functions nx.0 as described in “Basis Set”. The system may contain any number of conductors at different voltages, and any number of materials with different permittivities.
