Impedance

Description

A boundary condition that includes support for Perfect E, Perfect H, and lossy electric conductors.

Common Uses

Perfect E is often used to as an alternative to high conductivity conductors since it is less computationally expensive.

Parameters

Label - A unique name that identifies the attribute. (IAttribute/Label)

Color - Color used on objects to which this attribute is applied. (IAttribute/Color)

Type - Type of impedance boundary condition. (IFDImpedance/Type)

  • Perfect E - Forces the electric field to be perpendicular to the surface. Also referred to as a perfect electrical conductor.

  • Perfect H - Forces the electric field to be tangential to the surface. Also referred to as a perfect magnetic conductor.

  • User-defined Electric Bulk Conductivity - Used to model a lossy electric conductor of a known conductivity. Forces the tangential electric field at the surface to .

  • User-defined Surface Resistivity - Used to model a lossy electric conductor of a known impedance. Forces the tangential electric field at the surface to .

  • Material - Allows you to choose an existing material. The resulting loss model is then impacted by the material type (resistivity or bulk conductivity). Create materials using the Browser if you wish to add new materials to this list.

Ignore Internal Application - If True, internal applications of this attribute are removed prior to the solve. (IFDImpedance/IgnoreInternalApplications)

Electric Bulk Conductivity - [ELECTRIC_BULK_CONDUCTIVITY] – Conductivity of electric conductor. Only visible if type is User-defined Electric Bulk Conductivity. (IFDImpedance/Conductivity)

Conductor Thickness - [LENGTH] - Thickness of conductor used in determining the corresponding loss. Only visible if type is User-defined Electric Bulk Conductivity. (IFDImpedance/Thickness)

Conductor Surface Roughness (RMS) - [LENGTH] – Root-mean-square of the surface roughness. If this parameter is non-zero it increments the loss associated with the boundary condition according to a parametric model based upon measured data. This parameter value should be small as compared to the conductor thickness and the skin-depth. Only visible if type is User-defined Electric Bulk Conductivity. (IFDImpedance/Roughness)

Resistivity - [SURFACE_ELECTRIC_RESISTIVITY] – Resistivity of electric conductor. Only visible if type is User-defined Surface Resistivity. (IFDImpedance/Resistivity)
